ZenActive Therapy Team

Jennifer is a Vancouverite, born and raised. When people ask her what her style is, she just smiles and say “mine”. She has been practicing as a registered massage therapist for 21 years and is excited to step into the treatment each and every time. She is constantly evolving professionally and personally.

Her treatments are based on each individuals needs. Her practice has developed from fascial and myofascial roots with techniques promoting movement, encouraging the body to do what it can do, overall wellness and body awareness. She loves her work and enjoys connecting the dots, so to say. Educating her patients is also very important to her. There is no such thing as a silly question.

Jen is thrilled to join the team at ZEN Active and expand her skillset and intuitive nature of her own practice. “A therapeutic relationship is reciprocal in my eyes, challenge me as I challenge you to know your mind, body and soul”.

oiyu (who also goes by “o”) is a registered clinical counsellor (rcc) and a registered acupuncturist (r.ac). after earning a master’s degree in somatic counselling psychology in 2015, they continued on to study chinese medicine, rooting their body-oriented practice in ancestral land-based healing. oiyu’s approach is grounded in the intelligence of the body–the body as a vessel for transformation, a gathering site for heart-mind-spirit, a channel for intergenerational wisdom, and a microcosm for macrocosmic change.

oiyu has over a decade of experience working in community health–providing trauma-responsive, gender-affirming, and culturally competent care to people marginalized by structural oppression, and who continue to persist and resist the colonial project. a lifelong student, oiyu continues to deepen studies in somatics, herbal medicine, qigong and taiji, yijing divination and daoist dream practice.

each session is tailored to the person’s unique needs, guided by curiosity, play, and deep listening. oiyu’s acupuncture style is gentle and may include non-insertion needle methods (eg. teishin and okyu moxibustion).

oiyu honours their ancestral lineage from the cantonese-speaking region of the pearl river delta, and the land and original stewards of the səl̓ílwətaʔɬ (tsleil-waututh), Skwxwú7mesh (squamish) and xwməθkwəy̓ əm (musqueam) nations.

Hi, I’m Jessica. I graduated from the Vancouver College of Massage Therapy in 2021, and my treatment philosophy is simple: less is more. I believe in working with the nervous system to help clients shift into a parasympathetic state, where true healing and restoration can happen.

I have completed all three levels of Vodder Manual Lymphatic Drainage training and am a Certified Lymphedema Therapist. This means I am trained to work safely and effectively with oncology patients, as well as with those managing lymphedema and lipedema. I also have in-depth training for post-operative care, and I enjoy supporting clients through all stages of their healing journey.

Whether I’m working with someone recovering from surgery, managing chronic swelling, or simply seeking balance and wellness, my approach is grounded, supportive, and client-centered.

Jennifer Kanyumwa is a Reiki Healer with a background in wellness, creative expression, and over 20 years of spiritual practice. She began her career in the spa industry as an esthetician, where she discovered her passion for creating space for others to feel cared for and renewed. That early foundation inspired her to continue her studies and become certified in Reiki, Conscious Connected Breathwork, Holistic Wellness, Art Coaching, and channeled guided meditation. Her own journey through burnout and rediscovering her creative and spiritual path called her to share the practices that supported her healing. In her Reiki sessions, Jennifer works with energy to support physical and emotional healing, helping the body return to balance and calm. Through mentorship — a blend of guided meditation, Reiki, and coaching — she invites clients to release stress, uncover what’s holding them back, and build the confidence to move toward a more fulfilled life. She believes that true transformation happens when we feel safe, supported, and connected to our inner wisdom.

When she’s not working with clients, Jennifer enjoys creating art, exploring nature, and spending time with her rescue French Bulldog, Dolly.

Maki started off her practice as a shiatsu practitioner when she first moved to Vancouver back in 2000. She learned her techniques from her home country, Japan. Coming to Vancouver, she realized that there weren’t a lot of forms of alternative therapy being offered at the time. She continued to work on her own for almost a decade until she decided to pursue the world of energy medicine.

Through her readings, she recognized that her strength was in the form of reiki and psychic healing. She found herself continuously helping her patients with deep rooting conditions that they may not have known – recognizing healing in conditions such as severe clinical depression, physical conditions such as bone breaks, skin burns, and ligamentous/muscular tears. She has had a tremendous effect within the community, slowly offering workshops to help us find the healing power within ourselves. She plans on pursuing her healing education in areas such as psychic surgery, increasing the strength in her own healing and meditation.

In her spare time, you can find her on the soccer field or softball diamonds playing hard and having a great time amongst her friends. She has a strong connection with the spiritual world and finds herself in nature or continuing her own practices with other like-minded practitioners. Also, finds she is a total animal lover! You will always see her around all the puppies.

Our well-versed TCM practitioner Ming has been practicing acupuncture and TCM for over a decade. Her enthusiasm for TCM sprouted young as she was raised in a family background cultivated in appreciating the oriental wisdom–both her grand-father and father were Qigong masters. Qigong healing is a technique that generates, or delivers vital energy which nurtures the body and mind. She has been assisting her father in delivering practicing, and healing sessions since she was a teenager! She then went on to study TCM in China from 2003 to 2008 and started practicing Acupuncture and Qigong healing in Hong Kong thereafter. Subsequently, she moved to Vancouver, BC and furthered her study for two years, and earned the qualification of Registered TCM Practitioner from CTCMA, and started practicing in North Vancouver since 2016. Ming would be happy to discuss your health and beauty concerns, recommending an appropriate treatment tailored to your unique needs and goals. A treatment may take the form of acupuncture, Qigong healing, and TCM herbal formulas in the convenient form of dried herbal powder. Each of these components can work as a stand-alone treatment, but also be combined to complement each other holistically. Ming’s practice is a combination of Acupuncture, TCM herbal formula and Qigong (energy) healing. This is a very unique treatment to align body, mind and spirit. Balancing the yin and yang in all aspects. She can help with ailments such as all physical pain (neck, shoulder, lower back, knee, elbow, wrist), sports injury, emotional problems, insomnia, digestive system issues, PMS, sinus, migraine, eyes issues, TMJ disorders. For facial acupuncture, she is offering Cosmetic and Rejuvenation acupuncture treatment which combines balancing the inside of the body.
